How to become a digital nomad in 2024- The ultimate guide with 8 essential rules to know about.

If you are not a digital nomad yet and would love to become one, there are several action steps that you need to consider before jumping into it.

The first step is to consider if this lifestyle will work for you. Let's take a closer look at it.

1. DIGITAL NOMAD LIFESTYLE

Most people go into business to make money and make as much money as possible.

Those same people can easily end up stressed, overwhelmed, and burned out living in a hamster wheel of chasing money and in the end at least a bit of quality time for themselves which they certainly don't have in the lifestyle they have created so far.

Why?

Because their priority was money, not a sustainable lifestyle supported by money income.

"If you choose,

a digital nomad way of living,

it's important to remember

that money and business are

simply tools

to enable and support

your desired

lifestyle."

Does it make sense?

At this stage of your research look at your desired outcome. What do you want out of your experience?

  • To be able to travel uninterrupted for a few weeks?
  • To be able to work in short bursts and then take time away?
  • To be able to go off the grid for several months?
  • To work a couple of hours per day, but every day?

Obviously, as digital nomads, we want to build a business that we can deliver and operate completely remotely, but the choice is entirely your decision.

2. WHAT ARE YOUR MOST PROFITABLE SKILLS?

Let's be clear here. Skills do not necessarily mean qualifications or a college title.

A skill is

any ability or talent

you have,

or anything

you’ve successfully

completed or

overcome

in the past.

There are all kinds of skills that you have, here are some examples:

  • If you’ve managed to lose 40 lbs with a healthy diet and exercise plan, you can help others.
  • If you’ve figured out the best route for a solo traveler to experience South America, then you can guide others.
  • If you’ve built an amazing long-term romantic relationship with your significant other, you can help others do the same.
  • If you have successfully overcome money debt, you can teach others how to do it.
  • If you can speak a language, you can gain an appropriate certificate and teach others online.

Beside that. What are your personality traits?

Think of things like communicating, organizing, simplifying or explaining things, decluttering, mediating, problem-solving, etc.

These are all valuable life skills.

I know a coach that makes multiple 6 figures online, helping people declutter their homes.

What is the strong side of your personal or professional skills?

I would suggest you take time, don't push yourself, give yourself a few days if you are not sure, or ask someone who is close to you..how they see your pros and talents.

3. OPTIMIZE YOUR LINKEDIN ACCOUNT AND CREATE PROFILES ON FIVERR, UPWORK AND GURU

Linkedin is the most powerful tool if you want to be taken seriously. Pay attention to it and optimize your bio, join appropriate groups, and put your skills on the market.

Fiverr, Upwork, and Guru charge a fee for their services, but these platforms connect freelancers with clients seeking their services.

A free tip from a branding professional,

learn from the following example:

1 – “I’m a photographer with 10 years of experience. I do weddings, baby photos, school photos, architectural photos, professional photos and headshots, and passport photos. I have a drone too and can do great landscape shots.”

2 “I’m an experienced photographer, specializing in action shots for online influencers. Here’s a link to my portfolio”.

You’re going to go with number 2. Right?

Why?

Because they speak directly to you and your situation!

Photographer number 1 might have had way more experience, better equipment, and produced better results for you, but it’s irrelevant – you’ll pick the person that speaks to your needs.

Golden rule: When you try to reach everyone, you end up reaching to no one. Learn to speak directly to your client's needs.

Once you've set up your profile, apply for jobs matching your skills and expertise. You may first want to take on a few lower-paying jobs to build your reputation on the platform. As you build your reputation, you can command higher prices for your services.

4.CREATE A DIGITAL PRODUCT

Creating a digital product is a great way to earn passive or near passive recurring income while you sleep. Identify a niche that you're knowledgeable about and create an e-book, course, or digital tool that provides value to your target audience.

Search for a platform that offers you all-in-one marketing and automatization services like e-mail marketing, creating webinars, e-courses, ready-to-go, funnels, collecting payments and so on to make it easier for you.

I found mine in Systeme.io. Read a review and get a free account forever that helps you to automate your services even if you are a total beginner. Stress-free.

5. OFFER A COACHING SERVICE

Offering coaching services is another way to earn money by providing a solution to a problem. This can be your other income stream, as coaching fees are usually higher than freelance fees.

6. PUBLISH SHORT E-BOOKS ON AMAZON KINDLE

Boosting your expertise by publishing short e-books on Amazon Kindle can provide you with a recurring monthly income and the status of a dedicated and passionate expert. Besides that, it also sharpens your writing and editing skills, which is a valuable experience on your way to online business freedom.

7. FIGURE OUT YOUR FINANCES AND TAXES

Take care of your finances.

Do you have enough to sustain your lifestyle for 3 months? Do you have investments tied to your home country? Do you need to sell off some assets?

Don´t forget to figure out your tax situation.

The borderless nature of a digital nomad makes it sometimes difficult to understand tax residency. You might need to pay taxes both in your host country and your home country, meaning that there is a possibility that you will be taxed twice. A good option is to pay taxes in your home country as a resident and travel as a digital nomad to other countries once you have figured out your online business income that supports your lifestyle.

When you find another country that you like with a digital nomad-friendly economy you still can apply for a residency permit there if it suits you. But don´t get stressed about these things at the beginning. You will figure it out once you get more experienced as a digital nomad. I might inspire you with some tried-and-true high-income stream possibilities through organic marketing and proven sales techniques.

It may take some time and money for these preparations, but if it means living your dream life then it’s worth every penny spent and more.

8. CHOOSE YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE PROVIDER

Do you know that as a digital nomad, you pay for your health insurance less than an employee?

Another advantage of being a digital nomad is that you have the freedom to choose your health insurance plan. You can research and compare different plans to find one that meets your needs and budget. Many digital nomads choose plans that offer international coverage, which means they are covered in multiple countries and you may be able to take advantage of lower healthcare costs in other countries. However, it is important to research your options and choose a plan that provides adequate coverage for your specific situation. I have done my research and I am happy with NomadsWings health insurance, however, I was not yet in the urgent situation that I needed to use it in action. Take a chance and check your monthly fees.

CONCLUSION

Becoming

offers

numerous benefits
